I initially fell in love with linguistics through the North American Computational Linguistics Open (NACLO). I was entralled by the patterns and rules central to language, as well as the unique aspects individuals brought to communication. As I expanded my knowledge of linguistics I grew to appreciate both the theoretical and the applicable.
